Test Results
How and when to obtain test results from the surgery
You can view test results that have been shared with your GP surgery using the NHS App, your NHS account or other online services and apps.
You can also contact us and the best way to do this is by submitting an Askmygp request. We can then send you a digital copy if you need it or print them off for collection from reception. For routine test results done in the surgery we ask that you contact us after a week in order to allow time for all results to be received and reviewed by a GP who will then add any comments, they feel necessary.
Hospital results do take longer and there is a convention in medicine that results go back to the clinician/team that requested the test. This is because they will know the exact reasons for requesting the test and often are most familiar with the interpretation of the results. Normally when the results are available the hospital team will either write to you with the results or arrange an outpatient appointment to discuss them with you.
We do not routinely get sent the results of hospital tests until they are included in the consultant's letter, which is usually copied to the patient, so we may find out at the same time or after you do.
Please could you contact your hospital team to find out more about this result. The contact details are usually at the top of any letters you have received from your team, and if not then you can ring the hospital switchboard and ask to be put through to your consultant's secretary.
