Living with Pain

Do you live with a long-term persistent pain condition? Does it affect your emotional wellbeing and get you down? Does it stop you sleeping well? Does it restrict your daily activities and stop you doing the things you want to do?

The Rural Practice Network (a group of 5 local GP surgeries covering Castle Cary, Bruton, Wincanton, Queen Camel & Milborne Port), is developing a new, non-medical pain management programme called "Live Well with Pain: the Ten Footsteps" which is available to people registered with any of these 5 practices.

The Ten Footsteps programme addresses understanding pain and the brain, acceptance, pacing, goal setting, relaxation & mindfulness, sleep, communication, getting moving, managing moods, medication and nutrition, and managing setbacks.

People with long-term pain conditions can come along to our informal and welcoming drop-in Live Well with Pain café on the first Tuesday of each month from 11.30am to 12.30pm at Wheathill Close communal lounge in Milborne Port (DT9 5EU) and meet & chat to others in the same situation and hear about the Ten Footsteps.

We also run 12 week Ten Footsteps groups locally – these are two-hour sessions that look in-depth at each topic, with plenty of time for refreshments and getting to know others in the same situation. We want to help people to find new ways of managing their pain which we hope will lead to a more fulfilling life, despite the pain.

An online Live Well with Pain café happens on Microsoft Teams on the third Wednesday of each month at 7pm and is open to anyone registered with the 5 GP surgeries who would like to attend.

If you are interested in hearing more, please speak to Health Coach Emma Pike by calling 07749 418850 or send a message through the Rural Practice Network Facebook page.
